Raymond Hester

The Hester family have many connections with Lord Williams School and Thame. Raymond and his two brothers Percy and Sydney went to the school and their father Charles owned Hester and Son, Jewellers Ltd in the High Street, Thame. Raymond played cricket and football for the school.

Raymond and Percy served in the infantry in WW1. Raymond suffered wounds and was sent back to England from the trenches and luckily both survived. They subsequently expanded Hester and Sons by adding 4 extra branches. Raymond died in 1972.

The Hester family were originally from West Wycombe. Charles Hester moved to London when he started working as a jeweller in the 1890s but by 1911 had set up his business on Thame High Street.

We will shortly be posting Raymond’s diaries of his time in the trenches.
